The Boss, Mamie Williams

Last evening I hung the wings on my Tiger Moth. I then placed my lawn chair 50 ft. away and just sat and admired Mr. De Havilland's handy work. The overall beauty of this elegant machine is often overlooked. Truly a beautiful bird indeed! As I sat and looked at this machine I tried to find what made this image of all that is romanced in aviation so appealing. Every single detail combined in a unique blend of form and function only found in a few flying machines is the source of her static beauty. Yesterday sitting on the ramp in front of my hangar or as some call it “The birthing center for airplanes” she started breathing her first breathe in some 26 years. A sunny afternoon gentle breeze came by her and I felt her rock a bit, embracing this small but important taste of new life. I will roll her out on nice days and let her feel the air again, and soon much more air will pass by her yellow wings. I feel like a proud new father again.
